I cringed when Harry Reid went off on Clarence Thomas a few years back citing no specifics but declaring his opinions as incoherent, then wrongly praising Scalia, a white conservative justice, for a dissenting opinion that Scalia didn't write. Even if Thomas is a dolt, (and I don't think he is), his opinions would have then be written by his clerks, top law school grads from top schools. If Reid wanted to score points against a conservative justice, couldn't he have done his homework and picked a white one? But no, he revealed himself as a stereotypical bigoted Mormon of yesteryear, naming the Black justice as incompetent without mentioning any specifics.
