The real contest is faith. The BY wing doesn't have much when it comes to this issue. This is why lessons that encourage children to do missionary work at school end up on other topics, based on geography. In Utah. it turns into fears about children leaving the Church. In California, it's about loving your very diverse neighbor.

Just got thru reading(in the BoM)where people 'taken in iniquity' were taken before Alma (the chief priest). Alma tried to palm the problem off on Mosiah (an honourable king), but King Mosiah basically said 'this (sin) ain't a political problem, deal with Alma'. Alma then turned to the Lord who basically said 'blot their names off - no other punishment'. I'm guessing that the sin spoken of was consenual sex, but it could have been a word of wisdom problem or any other rule of man (if it involved theft or anything like it then Mosiah would have certainly judged them). My point is that Alma, Mosiah, nor the Lord advocates civil punishment for sin - I wonder why so many 'Mormons' do?

Hey, what can you say? Satan's plan is more attractive (and more frequently implemented) than we like to admit. Especially when it involves large institutions that feel the need to maintain a certain public image.
